- No cost and no cap. Text chat is free with no timer and no daily limit.
- No download. Works in any browser, on any phone.
- No registration. Two taps, not a form.
- No bait. Nothing stops mid-conversation to ask for a card.
What "free" means here, precisely
The word has been abused enough in this category to be worth spelling out. Free means the thing you came for — one-to-one text chat with strangers — has no cost, no time limit, no daily message cap, and no point at which it stops and asks for money.
There is a paid tier. It removes ads and adds voice and video calling and matching filters, at $4.99 a month. It exists because servers cost money and the alternative is selling something worse than a subscription. But it is genuinely optional, and we do not degrade the free product to make it look better by comparison.
The advice that does not transfer
Search for how to open a conversation and you will find dating-app research: aim for a 40–90 character message with a specific, personalised question. It is good advice. It is also, for stranger chat, completely wrong.
The reason is that a dating profile gives you material and a stranger gives you nothing. There is no bio to reference, no photo to compliment, no shared friend. A long personalised opener is not possible, and attempting one signals that you have misread the room — or that you are pasting the same message to everybody, which is usually true of the people who do it.
So the register here is genuinely its own dialect: short, lowercase, unpunctuated, fast. Writing carefully is not politeness in this context. It is a costume that does not fit.
Free without being a nuisance
Free chat sites usually pay for themselves in one of four ways, and three of them are unpleasant: adverts everywhere, selling data, artificial scarcity to force upgrades, or a subscription. We use ads on our written guides, and a subscription. We do not sell data, because we do not collect anything worth selling, and we do not cripple the free tier to sell the paid one.
It is a less profitable model than the alternatives. It is also the only one that leaves the free product honest, and there is not much point building a chat site for people you are quietly working against.

Questions people actually ask
- Is it actually free, or free for a trial period?
- Actually free, permanently, with no trial and no card required. Text chat has no time limit and no daily cap.
- What does the paid tier add?
- No ads, voice and video calling, and matching filters, for $4.99 a month. Nothing in the free tier is removed or throttled to sell it.
- Do I need to download an app?
- No. It is a website. It works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or anything else, on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install.
- Why is a free site asking for my age and gender?
- Age because the site is 18+ and that line has to be drawn somewhere. Gender because it is what your match sees. Neither is an account and neither identifies you.
